Magic the Gathering is receiving additional crossover content that gaming fans in particular should be happy about. As Wizards of the Coast announced, trading cards for the Fallout, Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy brands will come onto the market from 2024. The publisher follows a step-by-step timetable.
Wizards of the Coast had already surprised everyone with trading cards based on The Lord of the Rings - and hit the mark with its One Ring promotion campaign. Collaborating with brand owners seems to be extremely lucrative because the Hasbro-Daughter recently announced further collaborations.
Magic the Gathering: Fallout and Co
The announcement of a collaboration with Square Enix is likely to have caused a lot of excitement among role-playing fans. Although there is an independent Final Fantasy trading card game, the combination of Magic the Gathering and Final Fantasy is a much bigger coup in terms of the target group.
But that's not all: other popular games brands will also be served - in 2024, according to Wizards of the Coast, a Magic release of Bethesda's hit game will probably be released in the first quarter of the year.RPG Fallout is coming out, and for the third quarter we are planning a cooperation with Ubisoft around Assassin's Creed. There is no release period for the Final Fantasy project yet - so far it is only said that they only want to start it after 2024.
Wizards of the Coast announced “Universes Beyond” on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Magic the Gathering. Despite its age, the trading card game is far from being retired. On the contrary: Through collaborations on video games or popular anime, among other things, the Hasbro subsidiary seems to be on a constant search for new target groups. With Fallout, the post-apocalyptic role-playing game from Bethesda, Assassin's Creed, one of the most extensive game series ever, and the Final Fantasy brand, Wizards of the Coast covers three classics that have millions of fans worldwide. A series of Fallout Commander decks will launch in March 2024.
Things should be exciting with Magic the Gathering – Final Fantasy, because the makers want to cover all games – from 1987 to the current Final Fantasy 16.
The new collaborations are not the first of their kind. After exploiting popular licenses such as The Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who, a release for Jurassic World is also in the works. In addition, the Japanese horror artist Junji Ito had designed several cards in his style and WotC continued to use the Transformers, Warhammer 40.000 and Fortnite franchises.
