When will the Nintendo Switch 2 be released? This question has been troubling fans for months. According to Nintendo, the console will be announced by March 31, 2025, but the wait for official information may be shorter. According to a rumor, the successor will be released soon.
Admittedly, rumors are a tricky thing. Often, the alleged leaks cause a lot of excitement, but then turn out to be just hot air. However, it is also clear that fans like to let the rumor mill churn because official information, especially regarding new console releases, is often in short supply. In the case of the Nintendo Switch 2 fans have been waiting for many months for the Japanese game and console manufacturer to come up with relevant announcements. According to a current rumor, the console will be released on the market soon.
Nintendo Switch 2: Release earlier than expected?
There was an alarm clock, music streaming, and one or two high-profile first-party games - for Nintendo fans, 2024 has been quite eventful so far. But the company failed to provide the most important piece of information, as there is still no answer to the question of the specific release date of the Nintendo Switch 2. At least: Nintendo wants to shine with the hoped-for announcement of the successor console by the end of the current fiscal year, according to its own - and therefore official - statements. However, the company may not fully exploit the time frame it has set for itself. At least that is what a rumor now suggests.
The Youtuber Stephen Georg claims in a post on the social media platform “X” that he received an email about a game that contained a striking line: The influencer says it is “available from Q1 2025 on PC (Steam), Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 5…and Nintendo Switch(it)” was written in the message. Accordingly, the Nintendo Switch will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2025, i.e. by March 31st.
Fans point out that Nintendo employees have previously used a similar term to describe the entire Nintendo Switch family, including the OLED model. However, this was done for first-party titles. In the case of the latest claim, it appears to be a third-party title - although Stephen Georg did not mention which game exactly. The claim should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
At least the approaching Game Awards are giving fans new hope for information soon. Some insiders suspect that Nintendo could use the show as a big stage for an announcement. The format will launch on December 12, 2024.
