Nintendo is still keeping quiet about the announcement of the Switch 2. According to a new rumor, production may have been underway since late summer. This could significantly increase the chances of an early release of the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console may therefore launch sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is still a secret. Although there was recently a rumor that the new console would be released in the first quarter of 2025, this seemed to be a rather bold prediction due to the lack of an official announcement. Although Nintendo will not need as much lead time as with the Nintendo Switch to make the successor a success, the Switch 2 is unlikely to come onto the market completely unexpectedly and without a marketing campaign. However, a new rumor is now feeding the ground for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 to actually take place in the first quarter of the year - at least if the leak is true. Because Nintendo itself has not yet released any relevant information about a release.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 in production?
Officially, it is only known that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced by March 31, 2025 and that it will feature a backwards compatibility feature. However, the Japanese company has not yet given a time frame or a specific date for the release of the console. Industry insiders have assumed that production should have picked up speed long ago. A new rumor that appeared on the Famiboards could confirm this assumption. The user "LiC" had stated there that, according to a forwarded message, the chip manufacturer Nvidia had already delivered over 800.000 units of the T239 to one of Nintendo's contract manufacturers in September.
The chipset mentioned has been mentioned several times in recent months as the processing unit for the Nintendo Switch 2. The SoC is based on the T234, but is said to have a few changes for the console, including a reduction from twelve to eight cores and possibly adjustments to power consumption, as the 34 model works with a TDP of up to 60 watts, which is probably too much for a mobile console. 1.536 shader units and apparently also DLSS 3 with frame generation could ultimately be possible through adjustments to the Nintendo Switch 2 - but all of this has not yet been confirmed, as Nintendo has not released any technical data - not even close to it. At least the latest rumor is consistent with previous ones.
The number of units mentioned is also interesting – “over 800.000”. The volume of the alleged delivery and the period mentioned in September at least indicate that Nintendo is planning to Nintendo Switch 2 may have already ramped up production significantly. This ultimately leads to the conclusion that the successor console could be close to being released. The last-mentioned announcement in January and the release around March 2025 would then be kept on schedule.
Without an official announcement from Nintendo, the rumors of an imminent release seem rather implausible. Nvidia has not yet commented either. Many fans are now looking ahead to the Game Awards on December 12th and hope that Nintendo could use this event as a big stage for an announcement.
