Cyberpunk 2077 needed a few attempts to get the recognition from fans that the action role-playing game deserved given the enormous effort. And with Patch 2.0, which precedes the Phantom Liberty expansion, the original game actually becomes a kind of Cyberpunk 2077 2, i.e. an almost new game.
CD Projekt Red is selling Phantom Liberty, the new expansion for Cyberpunkt 2077 based around the agent played by Idris Elba, as the big thing. That may be the case, but patch 21, which will be released on September 2.0st, is the change that pretty much every fan should be waiting for. Because: The patch is more than that. The upgrade completely changes the basic game, so radically that it also gives the action role-playing game a new one.
Cyberpoint 2077: Everything is different – except for the quests
Sure, nothing changes in the story and the quests with patch 2.0, but the developers have completely overhauled the entire gameplay structure and in some cases completely turned it on its head. What players should do in light of the changes is obvious: start a new adventure in Cyberpunk 2077 and not just continue playing.
How you play and work your way through Night City with the main character V will change drastically with patch 2.0: According to CD Projekt Red, new bonus trees will be added, the cyberware will be revised and, above all, the police will act more believably. Ultimately, little remains of the old talent trees. With the new capabilities combined with the cyberware adjustments away from the clothing system and towards a capacity system, the gameplay will feel different. You have to develop your character tactically, and you can do that without having to forego the coolness factor through your clothing - both run parallel.
The progression system around the five categories becomes a playground where you can let off steam because you no longer have to worry about all the skills. Leveling up essentially grants status increases and sometimes perks and modifications. Ultimately, all adjustments have a much more noticeable effect on the gameplay: instead of just passive improvements, for example in damage values, you will see on the screen where your focus is. There are completely new abilities where previously there were only small percentage adjustments. Not only does V hit harder, but it also feels like you're playing a character enhanced with cyberware. Game fans can therefore develop real builds, some of which differ significantly from one another.
The developers themselves give examples of cool builds:
The developers at CD Projekt Red are finally exploiting the potential that the basic cyberpunk setting offers them. The sometimes lame action role-playing game is now becoming a fast-paced FPS role-playing shooter with a much cooler style. Ultimately, of course, not every single detail of the abilities has been updated, but overall the changes are so far-reaching that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a different game.
The makers of the game also increase the credibility of the world: the Night City police now act like a powerful law enforcement force. The new system is based on the idea of GTA 5 - with wanted levels, pursuits and reinforcements. Gone are the sometimes strange teleportation systems. Otherwise: You will probably be able to take any cat as a pet.
Of course, fans will also buy Liberty City given the additional new content, but they will also be able to enjoy the basic game again with patch 2.0. More than ever. It seems Cyberpunk 2077 is finally the game it should have been from the start.
