Ravensburger recently started selling the fifth wave of cards called “Himmelsleuchten” – the future of Disney Lorcan has long been in concrete preparation. At the Disney Convention D23 in Anaheim, the publisher also presented new features related to the trading card game. Particularly interesting: a return to content from the eighties.
With Disney Lorcana, Ravensburger has hit a nerve: fans of trading card games are eagerly awaiting new card sets, but the publisher also has beginners in mind and is releasing accessories and accompanying products to make getting started in the world of trading card games as easy as possible. The illustrations and the ever-changing card themes are the main magnets for Disney Lorcana. Ravensburger recently took a look into the future at the Disney Expo D23 in Anaheim.
Disney Lorcana: Pocahontas and Pixar
For Disney fans, it is the Stories behind the cards, which make the trading card game particularly appealing - this applies to young players who enjoy Elsa, Ralph or Bruno. And it applies to experienced TCG or Disney fans, who can reminisce with cards from old comic films such as Robin Hood or The Witch and the Wizard. There will be more of the latter stories, as the D23-Expro revealed: Accordingly, next year there will be cards from the 1985 film The Black Cauldron. It is about a young swineherd who dreams of becoming a famous swordsman. His plans are thwarted when the Horned King kidnaps the prophetic pig Hen Wen. An adventure begins for Taran.
Fans of Disney Lorcan Against the backdrop of the story, the cards are likely to be taken directly from the original - as with previous sets: Specifically, these are likely to be elves, witches or magical weapons. Disney Lorcana should enrich the content of classic fantasy - and also provide a good contrast to modern stories. Announced cards for the series Chip and Dale - Rescue Rangers from the late 65s also fit in with this. XNUMX episodes spread over three seasons should offer plenty of material for new things.
According to information from Ravensburger, there will be more film content at D23 in the next two years: Pocahontas and various Pixar films will also serve as templates for new cards at Disney Lorcana. Both are planned for 2026.
However, there were no more specific details about the other Disney Lorcana sets to be released at D23. Fans will have to be patient here, but can pass the time with "skylights“, the current and fifth set.
Ravensburger is also stepping up its efforts in Organized Play: At D23, the publisher announced tournament formats for ambitious TCG players with the two Continental Championships in December 2024 at the Disneyland Paris Resort and in January 2025 at the Disneyland Resort California. At the end of next year, there will also be the World Championship in Disney Lorcan at the Walt Disney World Resort. The prize is a gold version of Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor. The participants in the continental championships will also receive a unique version of a card from the first set.
