The Gamescom set new records in 2024 and reached more people than ever before. As the largest community in the world, the gaming community celebrated its love for video games this week on site in Cologne and online worldwide.

Around 335.000 visitors from 120 countries came to Gamescom 2024 - Friday and Saturday were sold out. The number of people who followed the show program online is higher than ever before: by Saturday evening alone, a total of over 310 million video views had been registered. The figures for Gamescom Opening Night Live are particularly impressive, with over 40 million video views alone - double the number from the previous year. This means that the record number was significantly exceeded this year and represents a new top international reach.

Date of Gamescom 2025 is set

The community adventure Gamescom Epix offered another small highlight for the community with the new digital Gamescom Trading Cards. A total of 2,5 million page views were registered by Saturday evening.

The number of trade visitors was around 32.000. North America and Japan recorded the largest increases. The Gamescom Congress and the developer conference Devcom also closed with record figures. 150 experts from Germany and abroad impressively demonstrated in 70 program items on eight stages how social, economic and technological progress can be stimulated by games. Over 900 guests, more than ever before, did not miss the varied program and took advantage of the numerous opportunities for professional exchange on site. These record numbers were made possible by the event's move to the new Confex conference center on the Koelnmesse site. The variety of topics this year was greater than ever before and ranged, for example, from the use of games in space travel, the automotive industry and foreign policy to strengthening education, climate protection and community. The focus this year was on talks and panels on the topics of "Games and artificial intelligence" and "Games and democracy". A review of the program and recordings of selected talks can be found here.

In order for Germany to exploit the enormous potential of games and to catch up with international competition as a games location, the framework conditions for the development of games and their technologies in this country must be improved. The necessary steps and strategies were debated in the panel "Games location no. 1 - How can Germany catch up?" by top politicians Michael Kellner (Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection), Nathanael Liminski (Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia), Franziska Giffey (Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises and Mayor of Berlin) and Fabian Mehring (Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs).

Gerald Böse, Chairman of the Management Board of Koelnmesse: “The Gamescom has once again demonstrated its appeal as the world's largest and most important event for the gaming industry. With a record number of digital accesses and more visitors than last year, Gamescom, Koelnmesse and the game association are connecting people around the globe in their shared passion and at the same time driving innovations and partnerships in the games industry like no other event has ever done before."

Felix Falk, Managing Director of Game - Association of the German Games Industry: "Gamescom 2024 is a success across the board. The significant increase in internationality in many areas is what will establish Gamescom as one of the best-known global event brands in the long term. This week has also made it clear once again what great social, cultural and technological power lies in games and why countries around the world are rightly competing for the best location conditions for the games industry. Games are the gateway to the future."

On gamescom Saturday and Sunday, around 80.000 people celebrated together at the gamescom city festival in Cologne city center.

The Gamescom 2025 runs from August 20th to 24thIt will open on August 19, 2025 with the Gamescom Opening Night Live.
