Hasbro brings a lot of supplies to the market for fans of HeroQuest via its Pulse platform. There will be, among other things, a new quest pack including miniatures and a story book. The price: around 35 euros.
In the XNUMXs, HeroQuest was considered the top title when it came to experiencing adventures on the board game table. The game, which came onto the market as part of a cooperation between Games Workshop and Milton Bradley (MB Spiele), was intended to be the pioneer of a genre that still attracts numerous fans of the scene to this day.
With the new edition of the dungeon crawler, Hasbro hit a nerve, as the interest in HeroQuest on the secondary market had always been noticeable before. The surprise was even greater when the toy giant announced that it would start crowdfunding in order to re-release the adventure game from back then in an adapted version if it was successful.
New miniatures, new quests, new heroes
With its straightforward Gameplay makes HeroQuest quick fun. Even beginners can take part in the adventures, but experienced players from older semesters are attracted by the charm of nostalgia behind the title. Even if the dungeon crawler ultimately offers rather shallow gameplay compared to modern offshoots, without it many other representatives of the genre would probably not have existed.
What HeroQuest is good at: Telling little adventure stories. A group of heroines and heroes come together and you can choose to compete against a human opponent who takes on the role of the villain. This rather rare pleasure is also a special feature: in Hasbro's Dungeon Crawler you can be uninhibitedly mean, as long as the rules allow it. Basically, HeroQuest is more than a campaign game because it allows game fans to write their own adventures.
If you don't want that, you can resort to ready-made expansions that Hasbro has been releasing at regular intervals since the release of HeroQuest. In the past, adventure packages that supplemented the base game, such as The Icy Terror, The Mirror Magician or The Moon of Terror, were released, and fans were also able to look forward to new hero figures. With the villain and his monk, popular characters emerged in the fantasy scene.
Now we're entering the next round with new content for HeroQuest. At the last gaming fair in Essen Hasbro Fans already have a foretaste. The adventure pack “The Prophecy of Telor” can currently be pre-ordered via Hasbro Pulse for 35 euros. The base game is of course necessary for this.
Hasbro writes about the story: “Mysterious forces are disrupting Mentor’s magic. The HeroQuest story can be continued in the HeroQuest adventure pack “The Prophecy of Telor”. It takes players through 13 challenges to uncover the mysteries surrounding the Amulet of Wisdom and the Prophecy of Telor. Although the wizard Melar has long disappeared, he is known to have experimented with terror magic. After his disappearance, only the Amulet of Wisdom was found.”
Once again, several heroines and heroes have to work together, this time to penetrate Melar's labyrinth and put an end to the dark machinations. A sorcerer comes into play as a new heroine. Includes 15 new miniatures, 14 cards and six dice as well as a book of challenges. The same applies to this package: You can develop your own stories after the campaign has been completed. With HeroQuest, the creative possibilities actually increase with the number of packages available on the market.
Second new HeroQuest adventure pack: “The Ghost Queen”
Also new for HeroQuest is the “The Ghost Queen” adventure pack, which can be pre-ordered via Hasbro Pulse at a price of around 35 euros. The aim here is to decipher a disturbance among the spirits and save the kingdom. The story spans 14 adventures.
Hasbro writes about the story: “The elven sage Silvana, a brilliant seer and ally of Mentor, had visions of spirits surrounding her beloved student Nelath, a spirit whisperer defeated by Zargon. As brave HeroQuest heroes, you must enter Wyvern Keep and end the vile plot that has disturbed Nelath’s eternal sleep before she suffers a fate worse than death.”
This package also includes 15 new miniatures and six dice, as well as 15 cards and a book of challenges. Central to this adventure package is the bard class, a real classic of fantasy literature.
The two adventure packs for HeroQuest are scheduled for release in the new year: “The Prophecy of Telor” is scheduled for April 1, 2024; The “The Ghost Queen” package should be ready for shipping on February 12, 2024. Information is available on the Hasbro Pulse website.
