In the halls of Ghost Galaxy, new cards are being created for the trading card game Keyforge. The occasion is the publication of the new edition Grim Reminders. The starting signal for this was already given with a successful crowdfunding campaign on Gamefound.
In a YouTube video, CEO Christian Peterson gives an insight into the publisher's premises and shows the process of creating the decks, from generating the card sets on the PC to printing the cards to shrink-wrapping and packaging.
In Keyforge, two people take on the role of archons. With a deck made up of three different factions, you try to forge three keys faster than your opponent in order to open secret chambers and thus unlock the secrets of the planet. Unlike many games of the same type, the decks in Keyforge are not individually customizable but are fixed after they have been randomly generated by an algorithm. Each deck is assigned three different factions.
Cyber attack cannot stop publisher
After the loss of the software for creating decks in 2020 due to a cyber attack, there was initially silence about the up-and-coming trading card game from Magic The Gathering inventor Richard Garfield. Keyforge was first released in 2018 and achieved high sales figures. In June 2022, Ghost Galaxy bought the rights to Keyforge and released a new edition with Winds Of Exchange.
Grim Reminders is scheduled to launch in spring 2024. Participants in the Gamefound campaign have early access to the set. In addition to 250 new cards, the new edition will contain a new faction, the Geistoid house and various new game mechanics. Furthermore, a new card type is being introduced: Revenants. These cards are said to be very rare and can be included in any Grim Reminders deck. These are spectral versions of characters that were already included in previous Keyforge editions.
After a setback caused by the loss of the software, Keyforge's journey continues. The community seems to continue to be interested, which is clearly reflected in the numbers from the crowdfunding campaigns.
