In the card duel Schotten Totten Two players aged eight and over fight as clan leaders to expand their sphere of influence. To do this, they command the members of their clan round by round or card by card into the strongest possible formations on nine boundary stone tiles. Whoever forms the strongest formation out of exactly three cards can claim the boundary stone for themselves. Whoever wins three or five boundary stones first wins.
The new edition of Reiner Knizia's clever card game, which is now available in German again after around 20 years, is ideal for playing on the go and in between games thanks to its compact format. Synchro: Cooperative card games
The cooperative card game Syncro is less controversial. Here, up to five players aged eight and over fight various monsters over several levels. To do this, cards are played face down on the monsters in play, taking turns. The monster's attack value must be matched with the magic values, but the players are only allowed to communicate with each other nonverbally using the values of their hand cards. It is therefore important to correctly assess the other players' playing style and to "synchronize" with each other.
The enclosed quest book explains the story and the rules for each level. If the players run out of magic cards before all the monsters are defeated, they must repeat the level. Thomas Favrelière's replayable campaign game offers new challenges even at the lower levels and then gradually increases with new additional rules. The two story boxes with the themes of adventure and dreams & nightmares require less tactical, but more creative collaboration: up to eight people aged eight and over are inspired by a total of 110 picture cards to tell a story together. Whoever has a good start to a story lays out one of their own cards face up and begins the story. Over the next two minutes, the story is continued according to the same principle in no fixed order of play. The story stack is then turned over and the story is retold from memory in turn, card by card. The picture cards act as a memory aid, and if there is uncertainty, the other players can help - but this costs points.
The memory game by Julien Prothière and Alexandre Droit offers simple rules and a small format, making it a creative game for in-between times.
