In retrospect, it is hardly surprising that Asmodee will also be bringing this board game from CMON onto the market in a German version: the Essen-based publisher and distributor had previously released successful titles such as the Zombicide series, Blood Rage or Cthulhu - Death may Die in this country . With Dune - War for Arakis, fans of strategic board games can look forward to a thematic treat based on the novel The Desert Planet by Frank Herbert.
Another success with Dune?
That board games can take off based on the license had Asmodee with the localized version of Dune: Imperium including its expansions. The genre mix of worker placement and deck building was also well received by fans here, and the expansions also made the base game significantly better.
The new strategy board game is based on the events predetermined by cult author Frank Herbert in his book: “The cunning House Harkonnen, supported by the Imperial House Corrino, fights against the remnants of House Atreides, which is allied with the desert people of the Fremen. It's about nothing less than control over Arrakis and its most valuable resource: spice." This is how Asmodee describes the scenery of the title, which is categorized as an expert game.
Up to four players can pass the time with Dune - War for Arakis, and you can also choose to use a solo mode. The heavyweight event is recommended for fans aged 14 and over. The playing time is around two hours or more.
At the same time as the release of the base game, an expansion called “The Space Guild” is coming onto the market. This is basically about securing supply lines. Additional game components are included, including spaceship miniatures, which enrich the basic game with some strategic elements.
Dune - War for Arakis is not a cheap pleasure to purchase: fans have to shell out around 140 euros for the base game and another around 50 euros for the expansion. Both titles are scheduled to be released on June 28, 2024.
“Dune – War for Arakis”, the English title of the strategy board game, was already available for CMON Kickstarter a success. Crowdfunding generated just over $1,3 million from the campaign. Over 11.000 supporters took part to ultimately successfully finance the board game. Fans in Germany will now also benefit from this through the regular start of trading.
