Frosted Games announces the German localization of Phoenix New Horizon. The strategy game for 1 to 4 people by Jorge J. Barroso was published in 2024 by the publisher Perro Loko Games and is already considered an insider tip internationally. It is the first collaboration between Frosted Games and the Spanish publisher.
Phoenix New Horizon takes place in a fictional version of the year 2021. After a nuclear war, large parts of the earth are uninhabitable. In this Eurogame, players try to rebuild civilization on earth as best as possible in 60-120 minutes.
Buildings and regenerators must be built on the playing field to reduce radioactivity. The limited building spaces guarantee a lot of interaction and opportunities for tactical moves.
Worker placement in German version
What makes Phoenix New Horizon special is the unique board on which the action selection takes place. As in many worker placement games, the action fields must be filled with your own figures. Later on, these can be promoted to higher levels where better actions are available. However, since you are dependent on the predefined paths between the levels, you also determine which actions the character will no longer have access to in later turns.
In addition, shortcuts on the board open up as soon as certain fields are occupied in combination. One of the most important aspects of the game is to plan the best route through the action board several rounds in advance. At the same time, however, it is also important to react flexibly to other players' moves, as the action spaces are very limited. This always creates exciting moments.
