The decline of the Republic will be Star Wars Unlimited - the cards were put up in the specialist shops as part of the now well-known pre-release events. The launch in stores will take place on November 8th.
It runs for Star Wars Unlimited – the enthusiasm of the creators was most recently felt at the SPIEL'24 in Essen. The outlook for the coming year should be particularly exciting for fans, because the new and now third card set "Decline of the Republic" marks something of a turning point in the trading card game. Fantasy Flight Games will then present the Leave the initial phase and make some changes to the trading card game It is still unclear what exactly these will be - but it can be assumed that with the sets in 2025 (Jump to Lightspeed, Legends of the Force and Secrets of Power) there will be some innovations waiting for fans, especially with regard to the collecting aspect.
Until then, fans can enjoy the time with the Clone Wars This is where the thematic focus of the new set, Decline of the Republic, lies.
New cards, new accessories
The basic data will remain unchanged with the launch of the third Star Wars Unlimited card set: there will be a new box for two players with exclusive cards, a pre-release box for an early start in specialist shops, as well as boosters or entire displays. This time, there will also be plenty of matching accessories from Gamegenic, all in the look of the Clone Wars.
The third set will also include over 250 new cards with new illustrations. This should appeal to collectors in particular, as after some criticism about some graphic styles at the start of the trading card game, fans have now become accustomed to the colorful mix. The illustrators' works reflect their view of the Star Wars stories and iconic characters – players sometimes perceive this positively.
With Fall of the Republic, Fantasy Flight Games is sticking to the concept known for trading card games: This time too, there are some new mechanics that can change the gameplay and provide new incentives for deck building. In particular, the third set brings the new marker units and the keywords "coordinate" and "burn" into play. The ideas are based on the battles of the Clone Wars, revolving around the idea of mass battles for high unit losses. Thematically, the innovations in the third set fit perfectly into the game:
- burning: If you play a card with forgiveness, you can defeat up to X units under your control. For each card defeated, a unit costs two fewer resources to play.
- Coordinate: The ability listed after the keyword is only active as long as you control three or more units in total.
Fantasy Flight Games continues to follow this path quite purposefully, so that fans can see real progress in game design. The first card set (“spark of rebellion") feels comparatively shallowly woven into the setting, but shines above all through the content from the classic and popular trilogy. Already in Shadow of the Galaxy, the second set, it was noticeable that mechanics not only enrich the game, but are also meaningfully embedded in the theme (bounties!) – the same is true now with Fall of the Republic.

This is no coincidence, on the contrary. The design is based on this, as is clear from Tyler Parrott of Fantasy Flight Games: He stated in an interview that Fall of the Republic was built around the marker units, i.e. around the feeling of large battles. At the same time, this attrition of troops is supported by the omission of shield and experience markers. It is likely that you will find decks with many units on the tables - but there are also those surprises of deck buildingthat are common for trading card games. Due to the compatibility of all cards from the Star Wars UnlimitedSets, fans will surely discover some pretty powerful synergies this time too. Fundamentally, profound changes are to be expected, especially in the control decks. Strategies around the new marker units will be particularly noticeable here.
The target audience remains essentially the same with the third set, at least if you're aiming at fans of Star Wars Unlimited. As far as the Star Wars saga as a whole is concerned, Fall of the Republic will likely be confronted with the question of faith about the quality of the prequel trilogy much more clearly than before. Characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku or Jar Jar Binks as well as the Kaminoans and their clone production cannot be eliminated from the set. On the contrary: They are an integral part of the theme. That is unlikely to appeal to every fan.
